Former professional wrestling turned professional MMA fighter CM Punk (Real Name: Phil Brooks) has turned his attention away from the cage momentarily to focus on what he has described as “hack journalists.” This situation started up earlier this week when it was revealed that the Ohio Athletic Commission (OAC) gave Punk an exemption for his fight with Mickey Gall (Pro Record: 2-0-0) for this weekend’s UFC 203 event.
Generally, the OAC requires fighters to get a total of five wins as an amateur (Punk has none) before turning pro and if a fighter is turning pro after the age of 35 (which Punk is), he must have fought at least three times as a pro or amateur to be licensed in the state of Ohio. The OAC granted Punk the exemption on the fact that he has been a professional wrestler for such a long period of time.
This situation has caused some folks in the MMA community to give an opinion on the situation, which then prompted a response from the former professional wrestler, some of those responses being…
“I don’t know why people care. If you’re not me and you’re not the guy fighting me, why the hell are you so invested?”
He turned more specifically to the journalism world in his next statement, which was…
“They’re worried about my well-being? No, they’re not…They’re hack journalists who (expletive) just want to stir up a bunch of (expletive) for no reason cause they don’t get invited to this.”
