The future for Conor McGregor is uncertain. His next fight could be the rubber match against Nate Diaz, a return to the featherweight division and unify the Featherweight Championship against José Aldo, or maybe McGregor's next fight won't even take place in the UFC.
Appearing on crutches after the fight, McGregor spoke to the media and hinted at a future fight that will not take place in the octagon.
"I've got to talk about what's next," McGregor said. "There's a lot of options; some might not be this sport. So, we'll see."
Before the McGregor vs. Diaz rematch at UFC 202 was announced, McGregor wanted to fight boxing's Floyd Mayweather Jr. That potential fight lost a lot of steam from boxing and MMA fans after the Diaz rematch announcement. Both McGregor and Mayweather entertained the possibility of a fight happening on social media, with McGregor even posting an unofficial poster for the hypothetical bout on Twitter.
McGregor was also linked to working with WWE after his brief retirement from MMA before UFC 200. He has since then not shied away from speaking bad about professional wrestlers, mainly from WWE, and their lack of toughness. Various wrestlers, including Kurt Angle, Taz, Roman Reigns and Ric Flair, have spoken out against McGregor for his comments and defended their industry and said that they could beat up McGregor in a real fight.
McGregor also said after the fight that he wanted a third match against Diaz, but this time, it would take place at 155 pounds. Nothing has been set in stone for McGregor's next fight.
