Daniel Cormier Wants Alexander Gustafsson To Fight Again Before Potential Title Shot

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier is preparing to challenge UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic for the belt at UFC 226.

Alexander Gustafsson is a top contender for the light heavyweight title and DC wants to see him compete once more before a potential title bout takes place.

”If Alexander Gustafsson wants a fight like he’s saying, I’ll go back down and fight him. But he should fight again, because he barely fights,” Cormier said to ESPN. “I’ve fought five times since he and I fought. He’s fought twice. He needs to fight again before we fight.”

DC and Gustafsson fought once before at UFC 192 and it was Cormier picking up the decision win on that night. After his upcoming bout at UFC 226, a potential double champion in Cormier doesn’t expect to fight again until the end of the year.

”If I fight in July, I probably won’t be able to fight until the end of the year again. So, Alex should not have been sitting for a year-and-a-half and just waiting for a title shot. That doesn’t make any sense,” says Cormier.

UFC 226 takes place on Saturday, July 7 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
