Demetrious Johnson Wants Michael Bisping To Fight Yoel Romero

UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson is preparing to defend his gold against Wilson Reis at UFC On Fox 24.

Current UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping will be defending his belt against former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre later this year. Johnson would like to see Bisping defend the gold against Yoel Romero instead of GSP.

“He should be fighting Yoel Romero,” Johnson said on The MMA Hour. “Yoel Romero has beaten everybody. He hasn’t fought Yoel Romero. That’s the No. 1 contender.”

A date for the fight between Bisping and GSP has yet to be announced. The flyweight kingpin believes that the reason GSP got the title shot is due to his power as a pay-per-view draw.

“I think they do a little bit of both,” Johnson said. “I think there’s a little bit of sport, there’s a little entertainment. Obviously, at the end of the day, UFC, WME and IMG, they're a business. They’ve gotta make sure they make back that $4.2 billion they purchased the company for.”

UFC On Fox 24 takes place on Saturday, April 15 from the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri with Demetrious Johnson and Wilson Reis headlining. Fightful will be providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
