With only a few days remaining before the biggest super fight of the year, if not ever, it’s time to get up to date on everything you need to know. From McGregor’s training battles, to the Money Team camp to the bets flooding in, there’s a lot to take in with little time left before the bell sounds.
Two weeks ago, Conor McGregor’s training partner Paulie Malignaggi took it upon himself to slander the Notorious. The former world champ quit the camp when photos surfaced of McGregor beating him in a sparring match. Now, in a recent interview with MMA Hour, he is calling Conor a “dirtbag” and also doubts his endurance.
Meanwhile, with The Money Team, Floyd Mayweather has admitted that he’s lost a step in his training. Due to this, he believes McGregor may have a slight edge on him at the moment. It’s a slight edge that he will desperately need because he is still seen as a major underdog heading into this fight. The lines have not swayed the betting public, though, as one sportsbook out of Nevada is reporting 95% of their bets have been placed on McGregor. An added incentive to go with the Notorious as well is that Floyd has asked the Nevada State Commision to change the glove weight from 10 ounces to eight.
Lighter gloves may give Conor a better chance given most MMA fighters typically wear 4oz gloves. With that said, though, Floyd will also be able to take advantage as he’s been known to have one of the quickest jabs in the sport. Given that Money is also 49-0 with 26 career knockouts, it also likely won’t be enough to tip the scales too far in McGregor’s favor.
With the super fight set to go, the last thing to take care of for the two promoters are the undercard bouts. Mayweather’s protégé Gervonta Davis (18-0) will enter the ring facing Francisco Fonseca (19-0-1) for the IBF Junior-Lightweight title. Andrew Tabiti (14-0) will take on Steve Cunningham (29-8-1) for the USBA World Cruiserweight belt. Then to close things out before the main event, Nathan Cleverly (30-3) will fight Badou Jack (21-1-2) for the WBA Light-Heavyweight World Championship.
