Frankie Edgar says the timing of his next fight was perfect and he likes how he matches up against his opponent.

UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway was scheduled to defend his championship against Frankie Edgar at UFC 218. Holloway defeated Jose Aldo for the championship and Edgar has lost twice to Aldo. In an interview on Fightful MMA's podcast Holy Smokes, "Showdown Joe" Ferraro asked if Edgar felt fortunate to have had Holloway become champion. Edgar agreed and said UFC 218 is the best time to have the fight.  It's worth noting that this interview was conducted before Edgar withdrew from the fight.

"It really could not have went a better way for me. Me and Max have never fought and what better time than now. I want the belt, let's make it happen," said Edgar.

The former lightweight champion Edgar went on to say he believes he matches up well against the twenty-five year old champion Holloway.

"Max is fun. He gets better every time out. He's still very young which is kind of crazy. Super long guy cuts a lot of weight. I like how I match up with him. I mix things up, I'm not a one-trick pony. I don't go out and do just one thing. I feel like I've got good footwork, my movement, and takedowns. It's a good matchup actually," said Edgar.

Also during the podcast, Edgar looked back on his ten-year career in the UFC and his greatest accomplishments. At UFC 218, Edgar has the chance to dethrone Max Holloway and join a small group of fighters who have won UFC championships in two different weight divisions.

UFC 218 happens on December 2nd and Fightful MMA will provide live coverage and a recapping podcast.

Holy Smokes airs Tuesdays at 3 pm on FightfulPods.com. The show features discussions of current mixed-martial-arts topics and more interviews with other fighters.
