Exclusive: Headlocked Creator Mike Kingston Talks Getting Ric Flair Involved, More

I recently spoke to Headlocked comic creator Mike Kingston about his latest Headlocked series. His Kickstarter, which is ongoing, has already passed the goal, but is still open until May 1, with some pretty outstanding rewards. Past Kickstarters have seen Fightful's own Shane Helms involved as well.

You can see a synopsis of Headlocked: The Hard Way below, and hear our full interview above.

Carlos Cabrera Signs With AEW

Following the events of “Headlocked: The Last Territory Volume 2,” we find Mike Hartmann, still in Texas training under Dr. Destruction, struggling to deal with his new reality. As Mike is starting to learn, when it comes to the wrestling business...(ahem)...there is no easy way. Since the first issue, we've been teasing the event that had left Mike Hartmann bloody, hospitalized, and blackballed from the wrestling business. In Headlocked: The Hard Way, we finally learn the details of what happened on that fateful night.

When I asked Kingston how he was able to get Ric Flair -- not your stereotypical comic fan -- involved, he credited his appearances on conventions.

"We have a fairly large convention presence now. When you have all the wrestlers in one spot, other wrestlers invariably show up. Sting showed up to our booth. Zack Ryder is around scoping out action figures. A lot of wrestlers who like comics find their way into my DM's," said Kingston. "I've had Ric at my booth a couple of times. He's seen what we've done and the passion of what we've done and wanted to help out."
