Former NXT Superstar Added To Commentary Team

A former NXT Superstar returned to his old stomping grounds at the tapings Wednesday night, but the nature of his comeback might surprise you — he’s joining the commentary team.

Percy Watson was announced via a highlight reel as the new commentator for NXT before the show, then entered to a mildly positive reaction.

Watson joined Tom Phillips and Corey Graves at the desk for the full taping, according to those in attendance. This comes after several changes to commentary teams, including the addition of Phillips to the Smackdown team, and Austin Aries joining Mauro Ranallo and Corey Graves on 205 live.

Watson, who is a former NFL player (real name is Nick McNeil), was signed in 2009 and competed on the second season of NXT — back when it was in it’s original competition-show format — before being released from the company in 2013. He was pulled from NXT TV in January of 2013, and was released several months later. During his run, he was able to manage televised wins over Heath Slater, Darren Young, Tyson Kidd, Big E, and Derrick Bateman -- now known as EC3.
