Patrick Cote has called it a career.
UFC 210 wasn't Patrick Cote's night. Despite a valiant effort, the Canadian was picked apart by longtime UFC welterweight Thiago Alves, who attacked with vicious leg kicks. Following the bout, Cote announced his retirement from MMA.
Cote, who competed at 170 pounds at UFC 210, found much more fame at higher weight classes. Cote made his UFC debut in 2004, taking on Tito Ortiz at 205 pounds on four days' notice. He'd go on to drop the much larger Ortiz with a shot, but would lose via unanimous decision.
“I knew, win or lose that will be my last fight,” Cote said in the cage after the bout. “Thank you fans, it’s been an amazing 15 years.”
Later, Cote would make the finals of The Ultimate Fighter Season Four, losing in the finals to Travis Lutter. Just two years later, he earned a UFC Middleweight Championship fight, dropping the fight to Anderson Silva when he blew his knee out in the third round.
The 37-year old Cote retires at 23-11 with notable wins over Ben Saunders, Joe Riggs, Josh Burkman, Kendall Grove and Ricardo Almeida.
