Gegard Mousasi Blames The Media For Ronda Rousey Hype

MMA

Gegard Mousasi is currently a free agent after his last fight with Chris Weidman at UFC 210, but that hasn’t stopped him from giving his opinions on some of the fighters under a deal with the promotion.

One of those fighters that Mousasi is critical of is former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey and the fighter blames the media for the hype surrounding her.

“She’s a good fighter, she has the mentality of a fighter, but she doesn’t have the skills of a stand-up fighter,” he said to Today. “How can the media make her one of the best fighters when she can’t even kick or punch? That’s like Serena Williams [playing] without a backhand. How do they make her the greatest fighter of all time?”

Outside of the UFC, both Rousey and Mousasi both competed in Strikeforce together, where Mousasi held the middleweight title and Rousey held the women’s bantamweight title.

A big question surrounding Rousey at the moment is whether or not she will fight again. The Dutch striker doesn’t believe she will.

“I think she has a lot of money, she doesn’t need to fight,” he said.

While Mousasi hasn’t competed since the aforementioned UFC 210 card, the former women’s bantamweight champion hasn’t competed since UFC 207.
