Gegard Mousasi is preparing to face former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman in the co-main event of UFC 210.
Mousasi, who is in the final fight of his UFC deal, can't believe the fights that the UFC has been making as of late, feeling they value anomalies over quality.
“The UFC is making these fights that don’t make any sense,” Mousasi told MMA Junkie Radio. “Dan Henderson and now (Georges St-Pierre), so if they would have done it the correct way, Romero would have fought for his belt, (Ronaldo) ‘Jacare’ (Souza) would have got his shot by now, and I would have been afterwards. But because of this fight (between Bisping and St-Pierre) that really doesn’t make any sense, the No. 1 contenders have to wait.”
The fighter is just one of a long list of fighters that has been critical of the UFC’s matchmaking since the new owners took over in 2016. While Mousasi is happy to be fighting Weidman at UFC 210, the fighter feels that he should’ve already been given a title shot by the promotion.
“Let’s say after this fight, I have to put everything on the line again to get a win, and then fight for the title, where it actually should have been me already if the UFC hadn’t made those stupid fights,” says Mousasi.
UFC 210 takes place on Saturday, April 8 from the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York with Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow the next morning.
