GFW Says There Are Big Plans For Alberto El Patron, Never Were Any For Rey Mysterio

Global Force Wrestling's new creative team of Scott D'Amore, Big John Gaburick and Sonjay Dutt held a media conference call today, and among the topics discussed was former Global Champion Alberto El Patron, who remains suspended indefinitely after the domestic violence incident with his fiancee Paige at Orlando International airport earlier this summer.

Gaburick not only confirmed that El Patron would be returning to the company at November's PPV event, Bound For Glory, but that he would figure prominently in the company's plans going forward.

"We have plans for Alberto, we're excited that he's gonna be coming back at Bound For Glory," Gaburick said. "We're excited about the future for Alberto, he's an amazing talent and as a creative group we're really excited to come up with some real cool scenarios and stories for him in the upcoming months."

There were reports going around that El Patron's Bound For Glory opponent was going to be Rey Mysterio, making a surprise debut for the company. However, his contract negotiations fell through, and he will not be signing with the company.

But today, Gaburick said there were no such plans, and no such negotiations.

"We brought up a number of people in conversation that we'd love to have as a part of what we're doing here," Gaburick began. "Rey is one of the greatest wrestlers of his generation, so if the opportunity ever presented itself for Rey to be available, we'd jump at that opportunity. But there's nothing concrete that was ever set in stone with Rey."

Among other topics broached in the conference call:

  • Low Ki left on good terms, and the door is open for him to return
  • Dutch Mantel remains on the creative team.
  • No updates were given on the Jeff Jarrett situation, and reporters were specifically told not to ask about him.
  • They further refuted the Sports Illustrated report that Anthem was looking to sell the company.
