Goldberg Talks Match With The Rock

Former WWE and WCW star Goldberg had some choice things to say about working with The Rock.

Inside the Ropes spoke with Goldberg at a WWE 2K17 release party recently. The college football and NFL player turned wrestler was asked about being included in the new game and Conor McGregor’s comments on pro wrestling, among other things.

One of the questions asked was if he looked back fondly on his match with The Rock.

“Yeah definitely. I wish he would’ve let me do a bit more physical stuff or let me to a bit more to him but at the end of the day, you gotta keep your face pretty if you’re gonna be the Hollywood guy so I completely understand that but looking back on it, the fact that they would put me in the ring with him, first, that’s a huge honor so if I look back at some of the things I did back then, I sit in awe that I was in that position and they let it happen.”

Goldberg and The Rock wrestled at the Backlash pay per view in 2003. In a singles match, Goldberg defeated The Rock after hitting a Spear and Jackhammer in the pay per view’s main event. Other matches on the card included then WWE Champion Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena, and Women’s Champion Trish Stratus vs. Jazz.

At 49, the Tulsa, Oklahoma native looks to be in great shape. It seems a return to the squared circle is not out of the question for Goldberg.

“I do Muay Thai five days a week and wrestling pales in comparison to getting kicked in the face and thrown around like that five days a week. I’m a little lighter than I used to be but trust me, I can still bring the pain… Brock!”
