Hurricane Helms Talks Beating The Rock, Finding Out The Booking Plans

Shane Helms did not believe he was going to beat The Rock, even when The Rock told him so.

As The Hurricane, Helms defeated The Rock with a roll-up pin. The 2003 feud was the sole subject of Fightful Wrestling's podcast featuring Shane Helms last week. During the podcast, Helms would reveal he was told how the match would go via a voicemail from The Rock which he had a hard time believing was real.

Willow Nightingale Talks Facing Julia Hart At AEW Dynasty, 'I Feel A Lot More Confident This Time'

"I was in my hotel room, I went down to the ice machine and left my phone in the room, and luck would have it that's when I got a call. Comeback and missed calls, I'm like 'of course I've got a missed call', look at it, listen to the voicemail and It's Rock. Its just letting me know 'hey, wanna give you the heads up, it's me and you this Monday night, main event raw, we're working.' You know 'lace them up' kinda shit. 'You're going over, it's going to be fun, we're tearing it down.' just very encouraging thing and I was like 'did he say I was going over?' And he hung up, and I was half-convinced it wasn't him, I was half-convinced it was Jason Sensation or somebody that can do a great Rock impression,'" said Helms.

He also told podcast host Sean Ross Sapp that when he showed up to Monday Night Raw the next week, he didn't talk to anyone about it until he saw The Rock, because he was afraid it was all a joke on him.  Helms would defeat The Rock after Stone Cold Steve Austin provided a distraction. On the rest of the podcast, Helms described what it was like working with a star like The Rock and the mentorship he received from The Rock during their feud.

Helms appears on Fightful Wrestling's podcast on Friday. The episodes featuring Helms are available immediately with free membership.
