Ilima-Lei Macfarlane Proclaims Herself The Leader Of The Bellator MMA Women’s Flyweight Division

Hawaiian fighter Ilima-Lei Macfarlane hold's a 6-0-0 record as a professional MMA fighter and is arguably the best female flyweight in Bellator MMA.

It is with that mindset that the fighter has declared herself the leader of the women’s flyweight division.

“Obviously I’m the leader of the division, but they just had a couple signings recently, and I just don’t see them automatically throwing one of their new signees into a title fight,” Macfarlane said to MMA Junkie. “I feel like they have to give them a fight first. I think they’re going to be fighting the other girls in the division at least once before they announce an opponent for the belt.”

Macfarlane has won an aforementioned six fights since turning pro, with five of those wins coming under the Bellator MMA banner.

While Macfarlane doesn’t know when the promotion will introduce the women’s flyweight title, the one thing that she does know is that she isn’t waiting too long for another fight.

“I haven’t heard anything directly from Bellator about when they’re going to be presenting the belt or who is going to be fighting for it,” Macfarlane said. “I make money when I fight. If they’re going to make me sit until like December or whatever to fight for the belt, then I’m going to have to ask them for another fight. I don’t want to wait that long.”

Bellator MMA only has a single women’s champion at the moment and that is Julia Budd, who holds the Bellator MMA Women’s Featherweight Title.
