Jacare Undergoes Surgery, Returning In 6 Months

Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza is coming off of a second round TKO loss to Robert Whittaker at UFC On Fox 24.

As it turns out, the loss wasn’t the only setback for Jacare as he recently underwent surgery to repair a ruptured pectoral muscle. The surgery went fine, this is according to a statement from Jacare:

“Alongside with Dr. Rickson, I decided to undergo surgery to heal this injury once and for all,” Souza stated in a release. “I'm feeling relieved. I’m already recovering well, and I’ll move one step at a time towards my comeback to training and to the Octagon. I’ll be back soon, stronger and even hungrier to fight., hungrier to win."

It is going to be quite some time before MMA fans will see Jacare back in action, as it will take at least six months for the ruptured muscle to properly heal after surgery. The surgery was performed by Dr. Rickson Moraes and the total surgery time was just over two and a half hours.

Jacare is a former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion and he has a 6-2-0 record under the UFC banner, The Brazilian has earned notable wins in the UFC over Yushin Okami, Gegard Mousasi, Vitor Belfort and Tim Boetsch.
