James Gallagher Not Dropping To Bantamweight After All

MMA

Undefeated prospect James Gallagher was set to make his bantamweight division debut later this year at a November Bellator MMA event. However, those plans have now changed and the Irishman is set to stay in the featherweight division.

“I was talking to John (Kavanagh) about it and he just thought it would be better for me to stay at 145 at the moment,” Gallagher told MMA Fighting. “When you think about it, I’ve never been overpowered at 145. The guys might look bigger than me, but they have never had a huge strength advantage on me. I feel like my attributes are better than anyone’s in the division.”

Gallagher is still competing this November at Bellator MMA’s November event, but an opponent has yet to be announced.

Gallagher now has a new goal to focus on, which is to become the fighter that helps Bellator MMA break a million pay-per-view buys.

“In New York, I proved that I’m the fighter that they should invest in. I’m going to be the one who eventually breaks a million pay-per-view buys for Bellator. That’s the promotion’s goal, and I’m going to be the one who gets them there,” says Gallagher.

Bellator MMA: Dublin takes place on Friday, November 10 from the 3 Arena in Dublin, Ireland with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Spike TV.
