Jim Ross says AJ Styles and Randy Orton stole the show on Tuesday's Smackdown.
It was the first time, Styles faced Orton in singles competition. The two met to determine the number one contender for Bray Wyatt's WWE Championship. Orton won the Royal Rumble match, but as part of a long ploy he denied he wanted to face Wyatt at Wrestlemania 33. On the same episode that Styles won the number one contendership, Orton would reveal he had planned to betray Wyatt and take his championship. In his blog, Ross said he enjoyed the match and had words of praise for both Orton and Styles.
"The broadcast was solid until the AJ-RKO match which was excellent and pushed this show up another level. Both men came to work ready to excel and they did. Orton was as good as he's been in a while and when Randy is 'good' he's damn good. AJ Styles once again proved Tuesday night why I perceive him to be the best bell to bell performer in the pro wrestling biz. Isn't it unique how seemingly every opponent of AJ Styles has their best, WWE bouts against the Georgia Peach," wrote Ross.
After the match, Styles would be visibly upset with Shane McMahon about losing his opportunity. He had gone through a battle royale and another match against Luke Harper to earn his title shot. Styles currently has no opponent for Wrestlemania 33.
