Jim Ross Talks WWE And UFC Similarities

Jim Ross says UFC and WWE share the same problems.

The two promotions feature completely different spectacles but both rely on individuals and match-ups to drive viewership. Ross noted in a recent blog that both promotions have similar paths to success.

"Funny, or ironic might be a better way of putting it, inasmuch as WWE and UFC are in similar positions as it relates to earning big TV ratings to justify even more money in TV rights fees. Plus, they both have to build new stars that will become 'must see' performers that drive PPV oriented events. Both WWE and UFC must cultivate new, main event level stars, no matter the gender, sooner than later but there is no guaranteed formula to achieve success. It's largely trial and error along with selected calculated risks as the process sees who can organically connect with the audience that pays the tab," wrote Ross.

UFC experienced success in 2016 with Conor McGregor breaking pay-per-view records. Conor McGregor has been connected to rumors of him in the WWE. Ross also mentioned what he has heard about the future of UFC. The company was purchased by WME-IMG in May.

"I'm told that the ownership group that bought UFC are poised to make some major, directional changes in 2017. Should be an interesting year for us MMA fans," wrote Ross.

Ross also went on to discuss Linda McMahon being appointed by Donald Trump and John Cena on Saturday Night Live.
