The transition between the Fertitta brothers and WME-IMG has been a scary one for UFC employees, but fighter Jorge Masvidal is a fan of his new bosses.
“They gave me the fight, and I want to send a shout out to Ari real quick because he made this possible as well,” Masvidal said on The MMA Hour. “Ari stepped in back stage and showed a lot of love, so I want to give a shout out to Ari for hooking it up. I’m cool with him, he’s a good dude. We had a little talk, and you know, he’s a cool ass dude, bro. They’re getting a lot of heat. A lot of people are talking about them, but so far for me, with the new regime I got Jake Ellenberger, I got Cowboy fight. I’m loving the new regime.”
Masvidal will be looking for revenge when he faces Donald Cerrone at UFC On Fox 23. Not from a previous fight, but because Cerrone took one from him.
“I wanted to get a little bit of vengeance, you know,” Masvidal explained. “He took Gastelum from me, so from the start that was mainly the fire that was lit under my ass. I wanted to get my hands on him [Cerrone], and what a better way to do it than getting paid for it, you know. So I was like f*ck it, lets just call this dude out, he took my opponent anyways. And if they gave him to me, I’d get to box him up and get my revenge back.”
UFC On Fox 23 takes place on Saturday, January 28 from the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado with Juliana Pena and Valentina Shevchenko headlining.
