Kamaru Usman & Emil Meek Rescheduled For UFC 220

MMA

Kamaru Usman and Emil Meek were expected to collide later this month as a part of the UFC 219 card, but that is no longer the case.

Instead, both fighters will have to weight an extra month because the fight is now happening at UFC 220. Although no official reason has been given, it is believed that Meek’s visa issues heading into UFC 219 played a role in the changes.

MMA Fighting first reported the story.

Usman (11-1-0) is currently undefeated in UFC competition, last defeating Sergio Moraes by first round knockout at UFC Fight Night Pittsburgh. Usman also competed in the UFC Ultimate Fighter 21, which saw The Blackzilians team walk away the winners in that season. Usman’s lone professional MMA defeat came over four years ago at Championship Fighting Alliance 11, as Jose Caceres earned a first round submission over him.

Meek (9-2-1-1NC) is also undefeated under the UFC banner, having defeated Jordan Mein by unanimous decision at UFC 206. Meek did defeat one UFC veteran prior to signing with the promotion, with that win coming over Rousimar Palhares at Venator FC 3. Meek has only seen one of his thirteen professional MMA fights go the distance, the aforementioned bout at UFC 206.

UFC 220 takes place on Saturday, January 20 from TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts with Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
