The Warrior's run in WCW during 1998 is memorable for all the wrong reasons. The leader of the One Warrior Nation turned in one of the worst matches of all-time, losing to Hulk Hogan at Halloween Havoc 98.
Kevin Sullivan was no longer a featured player on-screen when Warriors arrived, but remained backstage as part of the booking committee. Speaking to Hannibal TV, Sullivan confirmed some suspicions fans have had about Warrior's time in WCW and why he courted by the company in the first place.
"It was Hogan getting the win back. That bothered him, that he did a job for Ultimate Warrior. That was the whole thing to bring him back. The business had changed then. You look at the talent we had underneath, there was a lot of wrestling. Then we had the violence with NWO. Then, here comes...The Warriors. It's completely off-centered to what the wrestling was. But this was Hulk's way of getting the win back when he put him over at WrestleMania. Strange. He put himself ahead of business."
As far as dealing with Warrior backstage, that was a whole other issue for Sullivan and company.
"He was oblivious to time. His ranting and ravings were that of a lunatic," said Sullivan. "He was always very pleasant to me, but he was off. He hated Hulk. You could see it in interviews. Hated him. Even though he was rambling, I think he was doing this to goad Hogan."
Sullivan theorized that Warrior would rant and take up time in order to show up Hogan.
When it comes to the match, Sullivan said, "It set us back."
Sullivan also believes that Hogan likely didn't make up with Warrior prior to his death like Hogan claims.
