Khabib Nurmagomedov Feels The Conor McGregor/Floyd Mayweather Jr. Fight Dangerous For MMA

Khabib Nurmagomedov would like nothing more than to fight UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor down the line.

McGregor has been trying to get a superfight made between he and Floyd Mayweather Jr., a fight that Nurmagomedov feels is a dangerous one for MMA.

“But in truth, for MMA it is a very dangerous fight. We're close to boxing in terms of popularity ratings. And if the most-promoted fighter the UFC such as McGregor is defeated by a 40-year-old boxer, it would be a blow to the reputation of MMA. But the money apparently outweighs any risks,” Nurmagomedov said to MMA News.

Nurmagomedov was recently set to fight for the vacant UFC Interim Lightweight Title at UFC 209, but pulled out of the fight due to issues with a weight cut.

Even though he considers the fight a dangerous one for the sport, the undefeated MMA fighter does think the fight is an interesting one.

“As a fan, it is a very interesting fight,” Khabib said. “I understand perfectly why it is carried out. It is guaranteed to bring the organizers a lot of money. Such an event the world of martial arts is not yet known.”

A timetable has yet to be set for Nurmagomedov’s MMA return, but it should happen sometime this summer.
