Leonard Ellerbe Has A Message For Super Fight Detractors

Leonard Ellerbe is the CEO of Mayweather Promotions and he has been working closely alongside Floyd Mayweather for quite some time now.

When it comes to the MMA and boxing purists who dislike the Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather super fight, the CEO has a simple message and that is to just not order the pay-per-view.

“We appreciate all the fans,” Ellerbe said during an open workout. “We don’t ever want to turn our back on anyone. But, again, the hardcore fans are the reason why our sport isn’t where football and basketball are. It’s because we stay in our own little box. It’s like, you tell me what’s wrong with these two guys fighting? If you don’t want to watch it, don’t buy it – simple as that.”

The fight has faced many detractors from the MMA and boxing community since it was announced.

Ellerbe also wants the detractors to know that no matter how hard they try, there is nothing they can do to stop the fight from happening.

“One thing is for sure: You’re not going to stop this event. The fans demanded this event, and this is what they’re going to get. We didn’t ask for it. We didn’t ask for this. Social media was on fire because of these two guy going at it,” says Ellerbe.

Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather takes place on Saturday, August 26 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
