Manager Says Jacare May Be Fighting Chris Weidman Next

MMA

Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza hasn’t competed since a TKO loss to UFC Interim Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker at UFC On Fox 24.

According to Souza’s manager in Gilberto Faria, the Brazilian may be stepping into the Octagon against former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman next.

"I believe that Weidman might be the next fight, in late-December or early-January, if that’s a good date for the UFC to book this fight,” Faria told MMA Fighting. “When we get closer to that date, we’ll see more clearly what the options are for Jacare’s next opponent."

If Faria is correct and the two middleweight do battle in late-December or early-January, then that bout could be taking place at UFC 219 on December 30 or a yet to be named UFC event in January.

Jacare would be competing for the first time since having surgery to repair a ruptured pectoral muscle, that surgery took place in late April.

For Weidman, it would mark his first fight since defeating Kelvin Gastelum in the main event of UFC On Fox 25 earlier this year.

Assuming the fight does come together, it would be a battle of top five middleweights because Souza is ranked #4 and Weidman sits at #5.
