Matt Hardy Talks About Being Both A Tag Team And Singles Star

The Hardy Boyz' initial goal was to make it as tag team champions, but since then have branched out individually as well.

Matt Hardy talked to Times Record News about both Matt and Jeff's goals growing up. He talked about the bigger than life personas behind some of the biggest superstars of all time, citing one as a big motivating factor behind creating his own persona.

"The first guy I was a fan of was the ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage," he said. "He motivated me to have a bigger persona, to project on a lot larger level. He did such great character work, but he was also phenomenal in the ring as an athlete."

Both Matt and Jeff had the same goal when joining the WWE in the late nineties -- they wanted to be WWE tag team champions. They met that goal many times over. But they've also succeeded in becoming singles stars, something Matt feels they feel confident in doing.

“My brother and I’s initial goal was to succeed and make it to the WWE and to become the WWE Tag team champions, and obviously we exceeded that in quite a healthy fashion," he said. "The things that allow us to have success on our own is that we both have confidence, we are both individual characters and we both know how to portray ourselves as individual characters."

After coming back to WWE as a tag team with his brother Jeff, Matt Hardy has established himself as a singles star after his brother took time off to heal from rotator cuff surgery. Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt are currently having a war of words that are escalating into a feud.
