McGregor Threatens To Hit Mayweather With An Elbow Strike

UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor is leaving the Octagon to enter the boxing ring when he faces Floyd Mayweather this August.

The MMA fighter has promised that if Mayweather gets out of line, then he may be on the receiving end of an elbow strike.

“Tell him, as long as he speaks my name with respect, I will abide by the boxing rules,” McGregor said at a media scrum. “I’ll abide by the Marquess of Queensberry rules. Only if he speaks my name. If he disrespects me during this tour, during this build up, then maybe I might just bounce an elbow off his eyebrow. That’s on him how he does it.”

Elbow strikes are illegal in a boxing match and if McGregor even attempts such a strike in the ring, the Irishman could be see huge fines taken off his payday.

While McGregor is more than willing to face Mayweather on the boxers terms, the UFC Lightweight Champion just loves a true fight in the end.

“I love a true fight,” McGregor said. “Elbows, knees, shin bones, foot. You ever bounce a shin bone off a nose bone? You ever dug an elbow into a temple? It’s an unusual thing. It’s an unusual thing when the elbow bone digs into the temple. It’s a nasty little one, but it’s something that I just enjoy. It’s something I love to do.”

Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather takes place on Saturday, August 26 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
