Michael Johnson Calls Out Former Champion

MMA

Michael Johnson is coming off of a loss to Khabib Nuramgomedov at UFC 205, but despite suffering a setback, he has his next opponent in mind in former UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael Dos Anjos.

"I think it would be a great fight. He's a guy who likes to stand and trade and I'm the exact same way. We are both coming off tough losses to guys who we both would love to get back in there with. I think it's perfect timing for this fight. I said before all the stars had to align for me to face Khabib and I think the same thing is happening now with RDA as well,” Johnson said to Flo Combat.

Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler Officially Announced For UFC 303, Will Take Place At Welterweight

Johnson (17-11-0) has won just one of his last four under the UFC banner, the lone win over Dustin Porier at UFC Fight Night 94. Johnson has already defeated a pair of Brazilian fighters during his UFC tenure -- Gleison Tibau and Edson Barboza.

Dos Anjos (25-9-0) is currently on a two fight losing streak, dropping fights to Eddie Alvarez and Tony Ferguson. Dos Anjos is a former UFC Lightweight Champion, he defeated Anthony Pettis at UFC 185 to win the title, he defended the belt once before losing it. Dos Anjos has fought TUF alumni already like Robert Emerson, George Sotiropoulus, Nate Diaz and Tony Ferguson.

Neither the UFC or Dos Anjos have responded to the challenge, which if accepted, wouldn’t happen until 2017.
