Mike Jackson Says No Contract Has Been Signed For CM Punk Bout

MMA

Mike Jackson and former pro wrestler turned MMA fighter CM Punk are rumored to be clashing in a few months at UFC 225.

While Jackson undoubtedly wants the fight, a hiccup in the plans comes in the form of Punk and his camp.

“No contract has been signed. I’m waiting to hear back from Phil and his camp,” Jackson said on the Top Turtle MMA podcast. “I’ve spoken to Mick Maynard, who is a close personal friend of mine as well as the UFC matchmaker, and he kind of doesn’t know what’s going on at this time with (CM) Punk.”

Jackson has already competed once in the UFC, losing to Mickey Gall via first round submission at UFC Fight Night: Hendricks vs. Thompson. Punk also suffered a defeat to Gall, with his coming by first round submission at UFC 203.

The one fight UFC veteran even claims that Punk doesn’t have the skills to beat him in the Octagon.

“[Brooks is] really getting a crash course, and I feel that, unless you’re some crazy prodigy, like a young B.J. Penn, the chances of you picking up different facets of the game to compete with someone — even on my level — it’s very slim,” Jackson said.

UFC 225 takes place on Saturday, June 9 from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
