Adrien Broner vs. Mikey Garcia delivered in multiple ways and got Showtime its highest viewership since early 2015.
According to ratings released by Nielsen Media Research, Broner vs. Garcia, in which Garcia won his junior welterweight debut via unanimous decision, peaked at 937,000 viewers and drew an average audience of 881,000 viewers.
This was the highest ratings for a boxing fight on Showtime since Deontay Wilder's WBC heavyweight title win over Bermane Stiverne. That fight, which saw Wilder defeat Stiverne via unanimous decision in January 2015, averaged 1.24 million viewers while peaking at 1.34 million viewers.
With Broner's fight against Garcia averaging 881,000 viewers, the former four-division champion now owns the two most-watched boxing fights for Showtime since the 2105 Wilder fight. The second most-viewed fight was Broner's last fight back in January when he defeated Adrian Granados via split decision. That fight averaged 779,000 viewers with a peak of 859,000 viewers.
The opener of the main card, which was Jermall Charlo’s TKO victory over Jorge Sebastian Heiland in a WBC middleweight title eliminator, peaked at 542,000 viewers and averaged 500,000.
Showtime also broadcasted two undercard fights on YouTube. The undercard, which saw Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller and Katie Taylor pick up wins, has about 168,000 views on YouTube as of the early afternoon on August 1.
