Al Iaquinta: Conor McGregor Was Never Deserving Of A Title Fight

MMA

The always outspoken Al Iaquinta had plenty to say about Conor McGregor.

Iaquinta and McGregor have been linked together through their losses to Khabib Nurmagomedov this year. Khabib picked up a unanimous decision victory over Iaquinta in April, winning the UFC Lightweight Title in the process. Iaquinta took the fight on one day's notice after injuries and the infamous McGregor bus incident caused major changes to the card. McGregor was critical of Khabib's performance in that bout, which Iaquinta took as a slight to him. Khabib finished McGregor in the fourth round of their title fight in October.

Speaking to TMZ, Iaquinta took aim at the former UFC Lightweight Champion when discussing future opponents.

"Conor is talking about an immediate (title) rematch, but I think he's gotta fight somebody. Who else would he fight besides me? We have a common opponent in Khabib," said Iaquinta. "I went the distance on a day's notice and he had all the time in the world to prepare and he tapped out when things got a little tough. Especially after talking all that shit. I think he's lost it in a lot of ways. Maybe that woke him up a little bit. I don't see him ever getting a title shot again unless it's just a money thing. He's totally not deserving of anything near a title shot. I don't think he ever was."

Iaquinta continued, "You talk all that shit, you talk shit about me, that (Khabib) couldn't finish me and then you go out there and get finished that quick? He'll do anything for a dollar. That money fight shit is all bullshit. Meet me in the alley, I'll show you a money fight."

Iaquinta is coming off a victory over Kevin Lee at the final UFC on FOX event earlier this month. McGregor's next fight is currently unknown.
