Alexander Volkanovski Says Second Win Over Max Holloway Would Get Him The Respect He Deserves

UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski defeated Max Holloway by unanimous decision at UFC 245 to win the title.

A second meeting between the two seems inevitable and Volkanovski says a second win over the former champion would give him the respect that the champion deserves.

“I want that fight, because there’s no clear No. 1 contenders, and I just think that he’s a great champion,” Volkanovski told TMZ Sports (via MMA Junkie). “And, for me, the biggest fight in my career right now to solidify myself as the best featherweight of all-time, and one of the greatest of all-time. I go and take out Max twice in his prime, ya know, people are gonna give me the respect I deserve.”

Reports have surfaced stating that Volkanovski and Holloway would have their rematch later this year at UFC 251, but nothing has been confirmed at this time.

Volkanovski also wants the rematch to happen at UFC 251 so he can get a home country championship defense in the books.

“I don’t want to sit on the sidelines too long, and I wanna defend my belt in Australia. That Perth card is June 6. We’re gonna make it happen, I reckon,” says Volkanovski.

There is no word yet on the status of UFC 251, as the majority of UFC events are up in the air at the moment due to the coronavirus.
