Alistair Overeem is going to be taking on top ranked heavyweight Francis Ngannou this coming December at UFC 218.

The heavyweight fighter is claiming that a win over Ngannou at UFC 218 will earn him another shot at the UFC Heavyweight Title.

“It’s gonna be my job, my team’s job to stop him and to show who is No. 1, literally who’s No. 1, because I’m ranked No. 1,” Overeem said on The MMA Hour. “And then solidify my shot for the title against Stipe.”

Overeem has previously challenged for the UFC Heavyweight Title at UFC 203, suffering a knockout loss to current champion Stipe Miocic.

If the heavyweight is able to get past Ngannou at UFC 218, then the Dutch heavyweight knows he beat one of the division’s best.

“This is like a legit guy,” Overeem said. “You can see he’s strong as an ox. He’s motivated. He’s willing to fight. I will be kind of his first big name test. I’m very motivated as well. And it’s gonna be a great fight — great matchup.”

UFC 218 takes place on Saturday, December 2 from the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
