Amir Khan To Fight Phil Lo Greco In Return Fight, Splashes Water At Him In Press Conference

Amir Khan finally has an opponent for his return to the ring this spring.

In his first fight of a three-fight deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, Khan will fight Phil Lo Greco on April 21 at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.

The initial press conference was certainly an eventful one, with Khan splashing water from a water bottle on Lo Greco. The ensuing scuffle put a halt to the press conference, which began with Lo Greco pointing Khan's alleged family issues and marital difficulties since losing to Canelo Alvarez in May 2016.

Lo Greco, a former WBC International welterweight champion, has a 3-3 record in his last six fights since the start of 2013. Two of Lo Greco’s losses came against world class fighters Shawn Porter and current IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr.

Khan’s new partnership with Hearn came as a surprise as the two have butted heads with one another for years. Khan said he hopes to return to world championship form and hopefully secure a fight against longtime rival Kell Brook, a former welterweight world champion who is also signed to Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing.

The April 21 card from Liverpool will also feature a Commonwealth (British Empire) lightweight title fight between Sean Dodd and Tommy Coyle and will also feature undefeated prospect Conor Benn in action against an opponent to be determined at a later date.
