Andre Berto vs. Devon Alexander Averages Nearly 1.2 Million Viewers

Despite a strong world title doubleheader on HBO, a Premier Boxing Champions card on FOX ended up being the big winner in terms of ratings for August.

The August 4 PBC on FOX card, headlined by a welterweight fight between Andre Berto and Devon Alexander, finished with a combined averaged viewership of 941,000. The main event, which saw Berto defeat the former world champion by split decision, averaged 1.193 million viewers, peaking at 1.266 million.

The three other fights on the undercard of the FOX card included a welterweight fight between former world champion Sergey Lipinets and Erick Bone, averaging 747,000 viewers. The co-main event fight was a super middleweight bout between former middleweight champion Peter Quillin and J’Leon Love, a fight that saw Quillin win via unanimous decision and average 915,000 viewers. There was one additional fight on the telecast that took place on the FOX card, Joey Spencer’s second-round knockout of Bruce Lutchmedial, and it was watched by an average of 938,000 viewers.

The August 4 main event had a slightly higher average viewership than Alexander’s last fight, a majority draw against Victor Ortiz. That fight, which took place on a PBC on FOX card back in February, averaged 1.136 million viewers, but had a much higher peak viewership, peaking at  1.53 million viewers.

The HBO card, whose broadcast started towards the end of the PBC card, was headlined by Sergey Kovalev vs. Eleider Alvarez for Kovalev’s WBO light heavyweight title. That fight only averaged 731,000 viewers and peaked at 813,000.
