Angel Acosta To Defend WBO 108-Pound Title On October Facebook Card

Less than four months after making his first successful world title defense, Angel Acosta is coming back to the ring on an upcoming card on Facebook.

Acosta, the WBO light flyweight champion, will defend his title against once-beaten Mexican challenger Abraham Rodriguez in the main event of a Golden Boy-promoted card streamed exclusively on Facebook. The fight will take place on October 13 and will take place at The Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

It is the fourth card promoted by Golden Boy Promotions to be streamed exclusively on Facebook. The first two cards saw Joseph Diaz Jr. and Ryan Garcia win their respective main events and the third card will have former WBA lightweight champion Jorge Linares face off against Abner Cotto.

The 27-year-old Acosta won the vacant world title on December 2, 2017 on the undercard of Miguel Cotto?s retirement against Sadam Ali. Acosta knocked out Juan Alejo to win the title in Acosta?s second attempt after his first attempt resulted in him losing to then-champion Kosei Tanaka. Back on June 16, Acosta stopped former minimumweight title challenger Carlos Buitrago in the 12th round of their fight to retain the title.

Rodriguez will be fighting in a 12-round fight for the first time in his career. After suffering a shocking upset loss to 6-2 fighter Alejandro Villasenor Hernandez back in March, Rodriguez bounced back with a six-round unanimous decision victory over Jorge Miguel. Rodriguez, ranked No. 11 by the WBO at 108 pounds, does own a victory over former world title challenger Saul Juarez.
