Angel Acosta Quickly Knocks Out Abraham Rodriguez To Retain WBO Light Flyweight Title

Finding a knockout artist in some of boxing?s lightest weight classes is difficult, but Angel Acosta is making a case of being the best one in the 108-pound division.

In his second world title defense, Acosta defended his WBO light flyweight belt with a sensational second-round knockout win over Abraham Rodriguez. The fight headlined a Golden Boy Promotions card that was streamed exclusively on Facebook.

Acosta landed a stunning counter left hook to Rodriguez nearly a minute into the second round. That left hand immediately had Rodriguez dropping like a stone and was unable to get back up, awarding the win to Acosta. The Facebook clip of the knockout can be seen at this link.

The win not only improved Acosta?s pro record to 19-1, but also kept his knockout win rate at 100 percent. As it stands, Acosta is just one of two male world champions to have every win end in a knockout or stoppage with IBF light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev winning all 13 of his fights inside the distance.

It was Acosta?s second time out as the world champion since winning the belt last December. Acosta won the then-vacant belt with a 10th-round knockout win over Juan Alejo on the undercard of Sadam Ali?s win over Miguel Cotto at Madison Square Garden. Acosta would then go on to defend the belt for the first time in his home country of Puerto Rico back in June when he defeated Carlos Buitrago.
