Two More Former World Champions Enter The World Series Of Boxing

As the World Boxing Super Series draw near, two more big-name cruiserweights were announced to be participants in the tournament, with another cruiserweight still being looked at as the seventh entrant.

According to an ESPN report, former cruiserweight world champion Krzysztof Glowacki has signed on to be a part of the cruiserweight tournament portion of the World Boxing Super Series. Glowacki joins current world champions Murat Gassiev, Mairis Briedis, Yunier Dorticos and former world champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk as the other participants in the tournament thus far.

It was also recently announced that former WBO champion Marco Huck will also be partaking in the tournament. Huck has been a major player in the cruiserweight division for many years, tying the record for the most title defenses (13) before losing to Kryzsztof Glowacki in August 2015

As for the rumored seventh entrant in the tournament, it is rumored that WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk will also join, but talks are still ongoing.

The event will aso have a super middleweight tournament, but the only name confirmed is current world champion WBA George Groves.

Glowacki stopped Hizni Altunkaya in his last fight on June 24. It was Glowacki’s first win since losing the WBO title to Usyk. Since beating Glowacki, Usyk has fought in the United States twice, beating Thabiso Mchunu and Michael Hunter last December and April, respectively.

The draw for each single-elimination tournament, due to begin this fall, will take place on July 8 in Monte Carlo with the top four seeds (which are to be determined) in each field selecting their quarterfinal opponent from the remaining unseeded fighters. The tournaments are supposed to start in September with the quarterfinals. The semifinals are expected to take place in early 2018 and the finals to be held in May 2018. The winner of each will take home the Muhammad Ali Trophy.
