Anthony Johnson Would Like A $1 Million To Fight Jon Jones

Anthony Johnson retired from professional MMA competition after a second round submission loss to UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier at UFC 210.

A retired Johnson had previously expressed interest in fighting UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones, but would also like $1 million to participate.

“Jon and I were supposed to fight four years ago,” Johnson said on Sammy & The Punk (via Tom Taylor of BJPenn.com). “If a fight that was supposed to happen four years ago is still a hot topic, that’s not some half a million dollar payday. That’s worthy of every penny you deserve to fight somebody. I’m not gonna say a number right now. Put it like this. It’s more than a million — plus pay-per-view buys.”

Jones and Johnson both have a plethora of MMA bouts under their belts, but neither have had a disclosed payday of $1 million for any of those encounters.

Johnson also believes that if the fight were to come together, it would be a scenario that benefits everybody.

“At the end of the day, everybody comes out on top,” he said. “The organization is obviously going to come out on top, and the fighters come out on top cause they got paid, and the fans come out on top because they got to see that one fight that they wanted to see.”

The retired fighter had also expressed interest in having the potential fight against Jones happen at heavyweight.
