The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) has announced that top heavyweight prospects Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois have reached a deal to fight for the vacant British heavyweight title.
The two sides have reached a deal with the BBBofC not announcing any specific details for the fight except that the fight will be promoted by Frank Warren. Both fighters would fight for the belt that was previously held by Hughie Fury until he vacated it as he is recovering from injuries.
Although it appears that the two sides have reached a deal to fight, it likely is still contingent on Dubois coming out victorious in his next fight. Dubois is scheduled to fight Richard Lartey on April 27 on a Frank Warren-promoted boxing card from Wembley Arena with ESPN+ set to stream the card in the United States.
Joyce got a major win in February when he defeated former world champion Bermane Stiverne to win the newly-created WBA Gold title. The fight took place on the undercard of a PBC card from the United Kingdom headlined by James DeGale vs. Chris Eubank Jr. Joyce, also ranked No. 15 by the WBC, has won all eight of his pro fights, capturing the Commonwealth and WBA Continental titles.
Dubois just recently made his debut in the WBO heavyweight rankings, coming in at No. 13. Like Joyce, Dubois has won all of his pro bouts and is coming off a second-round knockout win over Razvan Cojanu on March 8 to win the WBO European title.
