Two major Bellator Championship fights bookended the Bellator 222 show, but several legendary and emerging names were also highlighted.

Lyoto Machida and Chael Sonnen never met during their UFC middleweight days, but did at light heavyweight in the co-main event of Bellator's Madison Square Garden effort. Though Sonnen was able to secure an early clinch and takedown, Machida was relentless and TKO'd Sonnen after several body kicks and big knees that flattened him.

Conor McGregor pal Dillon Danis looked to improve upon his MMA career, as he took on Max Humphrey in a 175 pound catchweight fight. It didn't take long for Danis to take the fight to the ground and secure an armbar victory to move to 2-0.

Elsewhere on the show, Juan Archuleta starched former Bellator champion Eduardo Dantas, and Patrick Mix made an impressive Bellator debut by immediately tapping out Ricky Bandejas with a rear naked choke.

Things didn't go so well for Bellator projects Heather Hardy and Aaron Pico. Both were stopped in their undercard fights, by Taylor Turner and Adam Borics, respecitvely.
