Carmella James may have fought four times as a professional MMA fighter, but the competitor is now in the biggest fight of her live after being struck by a vehicle, which was driven by an intoxicated Larry Gaines according to KNSW.
The fighter was riding a bicycle to work when an intoxicated Gaines struck her with his vehicle, a seriously injured James remains hospitalized at this time. James is reportedly suffering from a brain injury due to the accident, but while the fighter is in a coma, one thing she is doing is breathing without any machines providing assistance.
Gaines has been charged with aggravated battery while driving under the influence after a toxicology report stated that he was drunk while operating the vehicle. The drunk driver has been charged with four separate DUI related charges in the past and is currently being held on $100,000 bond.
James trains out of Laselva MMA & Fitness, which has started a Go Fund Me to help James and her family with medical costs during this tough time. James made her professional MMA debut at Bellator 174 in January 2017, suffering a unanimous decision loss to Bruna Ellen. James is currently 0-4-0 as a professional MMA fighter, last competed earlier this year at Xtreme Knockout 40.
