Bethe Correia is just a few short weeks away from facing a fellow top 15 ranked fighter in Marion Reneau at UFC Fight Night 106. Correia stated in a recent interview that she’s considers herself the best fighter in the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Division.
“Amanda (Nunes), I think she’s a great athlete,” Correia said to MMA Junkie. “But I don’t see her like an Anderson Silva (an ex-middleweight champ who still holds the UFC record with 10 consecutive title defenses), winning for years and years. Our division is very even, it has very tough girls, and there were girls who gave her a hard time. Cat Zingano gave her a beating. You see, Amanda is very good in the first round, but loses a lot of steam when it goes past the first. It’s hard for me to say that she’s the best because I feel I’m better than any girl in the bantamweight division. But I recognize she did a good job.”
Correia would also like another shot at the women’s bantamweight title. She was knocked cold in short order by Ronda Rousey in 2015.
“I want to fight for the belt,” Correia said. “After getting through Marion, I’ll see the best opponent to get to the belt. Maybe Cat Zingano. That would be a great fight for me. That’s what I’m looking for, to fight the best and then fight for the belt.”
UFC Fight Night 106 takes place on Saturday, March 11 from the Centro de Formacao Olimpica do Nordeste in Fortaleza, Brazil with Kelvin Gastelum and Vitor Belfort headlining, the main card airs live on Fox Sports 1.
