Brandon Figueroa’s first title defense as the interim WBA super bantamweight champion is set.

Figueroa will defend his title against Javier Nicolas Chacon in the main event of a PBC on FS1 card taking place on August 24. No venue for the fight was revealed in the initial announcement.

The unbeaten Figueroa won the belt back in April when he stopped Yonfrez Parejo after eight rounds on the opening bout of a Fox card from California. This will be Figueroa’s third fight of 2019, having won the first two fights from inside the distance. While Figueroa holds the interim title, Daniel Roman holds the WBA world title as well as the IBF title.

Chacon has won a number of titles in South America and once challenged for a bantamweight title when he fought Jamie McDonnell back in 2014. Chacon, ranked No. 9 by the WBA at 122 pounds, has won his last four fights after being stopped by Isaac Dogboe after six rounds in their 2017 encounter.

The event is part of a loaded month of boxing for PBC in August. On August 3, there will be a Fox-televised card from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York headlined by a heavyweight matchup between unbeaten contender Adam Kownacki and former world title challenger Chris Arreola. PBC will also have a card broadcast on Fox that will feature the return of former junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara as well as an IBF super middleweight title eliminator between Peter Quillin and Caleb Truax.
