Bruce Buffer Doesn’t Want To See Jones vs. Cormier III

Jon Jones recaptured the UFC Light Heavyweight Title at UFC 232, defeating Alexander Gustafsson by third round TKO.

The newly crowned champ would call out UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier for a third bout a short time later, but UFC ring announcer Bruce Buffer doesn’t want to see that encounter happen.

“I don’t think it should happen unless they want it to happen,” Buffer told Express Sport. “I think that Cormier has made what I would guess to be a tremendous amount of money in his last three fights. He has a fight potentially scheduled with Brock Lesner for a couple of months from now. If that comes to fruition then he is going to make a tremendous amount of money out of the fight.”

Jones defeated DC in their first encounter at UFC 182, but a second win at UFC 214 was overturned to a no contest due to a failed drug test.

Buffer wants to see Cormier retire on top, but understands that money could play a factor in the heavyweight kingpin’s decision.

“He is at a point now, being a double belt holder and all, he could just retire on top,” he said. “But, money talks, people walk and you never know how much money will be involved. If you said ‘hey I want Jon and you to fight’ then he is going to do what he needs to do.”

Cormier has yet to respond to the challenge from Jones, but Jones is defending the gold against Anthony Smith this March at UFC 235.
