Cain Velasquez was arrested in February 2022 after he went on an 11-mile high-speed chase pursuing a man named Harry Goularte, who was accused of molesting the fighter’s son at a daycare owned by Goularte’s mother.

During the chase, Velasquez fired several rounds from a .40-caliber handgun at the Goularte's vehicle. A bullet struck Goularte's stepfather Paul Bender in the arm. Bender sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

In November 2022, Velasquez was granted bail at $1 million.

Speaking on Basement Talk, Velasquez revealed Dana White paid the bail.

“I don’t know if he gave out a statement or something beforehand when I was locked up and also he did pay my bail as well. So they’re helping," said Cain.

On March 24, Velasquez pled no-contest to numerous charges, including attempted murder and was sentenced to five years in prison. He received 1,283 days in credit for time already served and is eligible for parole in March 2026.

Velasquez is a former UFC Heavyweight Champion who retired in 2019.
