Cain Velasquez Says He Wouldn’t Fight Daniel Cormier

MMA

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier is challenging UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic for the belt at UFC 226.

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez is a training partner of DC and the he says despite the two now competing in the same division that there will never be a bout them in the UFC.

?Would I ever fight (Cormier)? No, I wouldn?t,? Velasquez said on The MMA Hour. ?I wouldn?t fight him. I think he feels the same way. We?re teammates, we?re friends, we?ve done a lot with each other. I think it would be easy, me and him, just because we spar so much, s**t, it would just be another day at the office.?

UFC President Dana White had also stated that DC could relinquish the heavyweight title if he won it, so that the light heavyweight kingpin wouldn?t have to fight a longtime teammate.

Velasquez even says he could make light heavyweight if DC plans on staying in the heavyweight division.

?If I had to do it, I could do it,? Velasquez said. ?I think it would be hard, but it?s just the will of the person. If I really want to do something, I could do it. Again, things could get interesting, so we?re just going off of that and we?re just going to play it by ear. First things first, helping him get ready, me get ready, and then getting that job done in July, both of us.?

UFC 226 takes place on Saturday, July 7 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
