Carl Frampton's Next Fight To Take Place In August

Less than two weeks after defeating Nonito Donaire and winning the interim WBO featherweight title, Carl Frampton's next fight date is already set.

Promoter Frank Warren announced that Frampton will make his return to the ring at Windsor Park in Belfast, Northern Ireland on August 18, marking the third consecutive fight Frampton fights in his home country.

An opponent has not been named nor has any other undercard fights been announced but Warren said a number of options are being explored as to who gets to fight Frampton. As the interim WBO champion, Frampton does have to eventually fight WBO champion Oscar Valdez, but Valdez is currently recovering from a fractured jaw he suffered in his last fight. Warren said he will find out in the coming weeks if a fight with Valdez is possible for August.

"He’s the interim champion. I don’t know when Valdez is going to fight, but he has to fight against Carl. There are a lot of things for us to look at, but I promised Carl we’d be at Windsor Park and we’re going there in the summer," Warren said.

Another option for Frampton that is being explored is Frampton fighting the winner of the Lee Selby vs. Josh Warrington fight for the IBF featherweight title taking place on May 19. Since losing the WBA "super" featherweight title to Leo Santa Cruz in 2017, Frampton won his last two fights, including the aforementioned fight against Donaire.
