Carlos Morales To Face Rene Alvarado In Super Featherweight Title Eliminator

Even after losing a controversial decision to undefeated super featherweight contender Ryan Garcia in his last fight, Carlos Morales is given a shot to fight in another main event with higher stakes involved.

Morales will fight Rene Alvarado on December 8 in a title eliminator where the winner will likely get a future shot at a WBA super featherweight championship fight. The fight will take place on a “Golden Boy Fight Night” card at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino  in Indio, California that is being streamed exclusively on Facebook Watch.

Morales has lost two of his last three fights, one to current WBA “regular” super featherweight champion Alberto Machado before he became champion and against Garcia. In the fight against Garcia, also taking place on a Golden Boy Promotions card streamed exclusively on Facebook Watch, Morales lost a majority decision (98-92, 95-95, 98-92) in the main event.

Alvarado, who sports a 29-8 record as a pro, is riding a five-fight win streak since losing to Yuriorkis Gamboa in 2017. Alvarado last fought in March when he knocked out Luis Gonzalez in the first round. Both Alvarado and Morales are ranked in the top four by the WBA at 130 pounds with Alvarado taking the No. 1 spot and Morales ranked No. 4.

Also announced for the card are Hector Tanajara Jr. vs. Roberto Manzanarez in a lightweight bout as well as Joet Gonzalez, Luis Feliciano and Javier Padilla all competing in separate fights against opponents to be named at a later date.
