Charles Oliveira Wants Back In The Featherweight Division

MMA

Charles Oliveira was in action on the UFC 225 preliminary card, defeating fellow lightweight Clay Guida by first round submission.

Despite having some success at lightweight, a move Oliveira wants to make soon is to return to the featherweight division.

“I want to drop down to 145, and I think I can beat a lot of fighters,” Oliveira said to MMA Junkie. “I think not because these lightweights, these guys can be stronger than me. I think I did very good at 145, and I want to drop down again, because I have good people to cut weight.”

Oliveira has a 2-1-0 record since returning to lightweight at UFC 210, but also held a record of 5-3-0 during his last run at featherweight.

The fighter is also now tied with UFC Hall Of Fame member Royce Gracie for the most submissions in UFC history at 10 and Oliveira says its an honor to be mentioned alongside a legend, but wants to make his own history.

“Royce Gracie’s a legend,” Oliveira said. “I did my best to stay even with him, and I came here to do my history.”

There has been no word given by the UFC at this time as to Oliveira returning to featherweight or if the fighter will stay put at lightweight.
